Chrissy Teigen's Pregnancy Has John Legend Feeling 'Cautiously Optimistic'

"Whenever you lose a pregnancy, you always have to be cautiously optimistic when you become pregnant again," Legend explains.

In an interview with Good Morning Britain on Friday, John Legend said he's "cautiously hopeful" about the new baby he's expecting with wife Chrissy Teigen (Sept. 23).

The loss of his last pregnancy was a sobering experience for the "Ordinary People" singer.

"When you lose a pregnancy, it's always cautious optimism when you're pregnant again," Legend added. "You never know what can happen, and you've experienced the pain of losing a loved one... As a result, your optimism is moderated a little."

In September 2020, the couple revealed the death of their third child, Jack, at the age of 20 weeks. Teigen said in the post that she had to be hospitalised following a month of heavy bleeding. Teigen stated two years later that she had to have a life-saving abortion while carrying Jack because he would not survive.

Teigen revealed her pregnancy on Instagram in August, showing off her new baby bump.

"1 billion shots later (in the leg recently, as you can see!) we have another on the way," Teigen captioned the photo. "At every checkup, I tell myself, 'OK, if it's healthy today, I'll announce,' but then I hear a heartbeat and decide I'm still too anxious."

Despite Teigen's anxieties, there is reason to be optimistic. "Everything's been amazing so far," Legend says.

Legend released his eighth studio album Legend on September 9th on Republic Records, stating that the album was inspired by "vulnerability of suffering, praise, and healing."
